Nonprofits urged to apply for grants that tackle local poverty issues - February 20 2013

OSHKOSH, WI - The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation encourages nonprofit organizations to apply for grants from the Basic Needs Giving Partnership.

These grants aim to support creative long-term solutions that help people move out of poverty and avoid a single crisis from triggering an ongoing lack of resources.

Organizations in Winnebago County, Waushara County, Green Lake County and the city of Ripon are eligible. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2013. To apply online, go to www.oshkoshareacf.org/grants_ao_g.cfm?cid=10.

The Basic Needs Giving Partnership combines charitable resources from the U.S. Venture Fund for Basic Needs within the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, the J. J. Keller Foundation and other community partners.

Eligible programs will address one or more of the following impact areas:
  • Help children, youth and young adults become ready to succeed in school and become self-sufficient.
  • Help individuals and families learn how to meet their basic needs and become financially self-sufficient.
  • Support low-income individuals suffering from aging and dementia to meet their basic needs.
  • Help uninsured and underinsured residents sustain a higher quality of life by promoting the control and prevention of disease and chronic illness.

In 2012, the Basic Needs Giving Partnership awarded more than $200,000 to projects and programs in this region.
