O4E to provide progress report on Oshkosh’s public schools - October 12 2015

OSHKOSH, WI - In its annual report to the community, Oshkosh4Education will shine the light on how the community's vision is being carried out through the Oshkosh Area School District's strategic plan, and look at what the future may hold as the district embarks a new strategic planning period.

Education Commission Chair Beth Wyman says people will be amazed by how much progress has been made.

"Our report shows that the community - not just school officials - but stakeholders across sectors have made tremendous strides to improve education for our young people," Wyman said. "We have a unique opportunity now to build on that success, and ask ourselves, 'where do we go from here?' "

The O4E 2014 Annual Report to the Community will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at The Waters, 1393 Washington Ave. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.

This is the third such event to be held since 2013 when the O4E communitywide visioning took place, and the second since the O4E Education Commission was formed to serve as a watchdog to monitor progress on the OASD strategic plan.

"The OASD Strategic Plan and the support of O4E Education Commission has kept the district focused on our mission," said Supt. Stan Mack. "None of our accomplishments would have been possible without the numerous partnerships with businesses and community-based organizations. In addition, our families and our committed staff make amazing things happen for students every day."

Wyman says this year's event is especially exciting as the district prepares to plot out the direction for schools in a new strategic plan.

Oshkosh4Education held a series of eight Community Focus Groups in September to collect input on how OASD is achieving the goals of its Strategic Plan and determine what the community aspires for public schools going forward. Using the feedback from these Focus Groups as a guide, the district will develop a revised strategic plan in 2016.

Attendees to this event will be the first to hear what the community shared during the Focus Groups.

The O4E Annual Report will be available for review at the event. The documents may be viewed after the event at www.Oshkosh4Education.org or requested from the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation by calling 920-426-3993.
