Wanted: Nominations of extraordinary community volunteers - March 14 2011

OSHKOSH, WI - Do you know a special person who gives their all to the community and doesn't ask for a penny in return? We want to know so credit can be given where credit is due.

The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation knows that people who give of their time to causes they believe in make Oshkosh an even better place to live. The Community Foundation is one of five sponsors who will recognize those people and their spirit of giving at Evening of the Stars on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Nominations - which are due by Monday, March 21, 2011 - are being sought for the following awards:
    Volunteer of the Year: Recognizes an individual or a couple for exemplary volunteerism through a single act or several acts that have made our community a better place to live.
    Business of the Year: Presented to a business for promoting, encouraging and supporting volunteerism.
    Mentoring Award: Recognizes an individual who has served as a mentor in the community and made meaningful contributions to the quality of life in the Oshkosh.
    Youth Scholarship: Presented to a high school senior or seniors who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in promoting volunteerism. The award can be earned for a single act or several efforts.
    Community Engagement: Presented to a University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh faculty or staff member who has created exceptional educational experiences for students that also help address areas of public concern.
    Unsung Heroes Award: Presented to a group (team) of individuals whose initiative has or will make a difference in the community. The top three nominees will be recorded on video and voted on by the community.

Completed nomination forms can be delivered in person or by mail to the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, c/o Evening of Stars Selection Committee, 230 Ohio St., Suite 100, Oshkosh, WI 54902-5894.

Winners will receive $2,500 to donate to a charity of their choice; the scholarship winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship to the college of their choice. The awards will be presented during Evening of Stars (6 p.m. program) on April 13, 2011, at the Oshkosh Convention Center, 2 N. Main St., Oshkosh. Registration is required. The cost is $30.
