|Women’s Fund hits $2 million milestone - June 30 2011
OSHKOSH, WI – The last day of the fiscal year is a day of celebration for supporters of the Women's Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.
Thanks to a $60,000 anonymous gift, contributions to the fund hit a benchmark $2 million today, June 30, which is the last day of the fiscal year, or budget year.
The milestone carries extra weight for the Women's Fund Board, a group of volunteers who three years ago set a goal to build the fund to $2 million by June 30, 2011.
"This is outstanding! We are so thrilled to see that philanthropy in support of women and girls issues is alive and well in the Oshkosh area," said Sylvia McDonald, Women's Fund Board president.
"And it's especially heart-warming when I think of all the work that is done to bring social change in our community, with help from the Women's Fund. Hitting this goal means we will continue to serve women of Winnebago County, and do more and better work at all levels."
The Women's Fund awarded more than $75,000 to the community in 2011, an all-time high. Since the fund began in 1998, nearly $500,000 has been granted in Winnebago County to make resources available for causes of interest to women; foster among women a sense of empowerment and philanthropy; and increase awareness of women's issues.
"It's the hard work of our volunteers and board for the last 13 years that has got us to where we are," said Karlene Grabner, Women's Fund development director. "I'm ecstatic, excited, and so very proud of the Women's Fund today!"
