Local nonprofits awarded crime prevention grants - February 13 2012

OSHKOSH, WI - The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation awarded grants to two programs focused on safety in the community.

The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh
Cops & Club Kids: $1,050

This grant supports the staff, supplies and transportation needs for the Cops & Club Kids program, a partnership with the Oshkosh Police Department. Police officers spend time with youth at the club on a weekly basis doing activities like playing pool or basketball, cooking classes, helping youth with homework, Internet safety and safe choices classes.

Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services
Safe Locks Project: $700

This grant supports home security efforts as part of the Safe Lock Project, which aims to prevent perpetrators from gaining illegal entry and further abuse of victims or others in the residence. The program replaces or re-keys doors and window locks and installs door viewers and deadbolts for added security.

The grants were awarded in January by the Winnebago County Crime Prevention Fund, a Field of Interest Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation. To be eligible, applicants must be a nonprofit organization and serve residents of Winnebago County.
