OSHKOSH, WI -- Students from Oshkosh and the surrounding region have a new online tool to find scholarships that will help offset the burden of paying for college. And time is of the essence as many application deadlines are in February and March.
Launched in fall 2012, FoxRiverScholarshipCenter.org already has been used by hundreds of local students seeking scholarships.
"There are so many more scholarships out there for kids, and the dollar amount of the awards is increasing as well," says Cheryl Fowler, education coordinator for the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation. The Community Foundation supports the website, which replaces an older online resource.
FoxRiverScholarshipCenter.org is an easy to use website that allows students to search for scholarships that match their background and educational plans and explore options such as how their university of choice, majors and grades could make more scholarships available to them. Students also can apply for those scholarships or obtain application materials online.
Built with the latest design features, the website is accessible from desktop computers, tablets and cell phones.
Fowler has visited numerous area high schools to show seniors how to use the website. "I also encourage nontraditional and part-time students to search the site, because there are a lot of scholarships out there for them too," Fowler said.
Students should think about applying soon as many scholarship deadlines are approaching.
FoxRiverScholarshipCenter.org is the most complete online source for scholarships available to students in Winnebago, Green Lake and Waushara counties and the city of Ripon. The website includes scholarships administered by the Community Foundation, as well as those offered by local and state organizations and businesses.
Since its founding 85 years ago, the Community Foundation has given away millions of dollars in scholarships for young people to pursue higher education and achieve their career goals.
In 2012, the Community Foundation awarded 179 scholarships totaling $189,270 to graduating seniors, a more than $85,000 increase from the previous year. In 2011, the Foundation awarded 102 scholarships totaling $102,000.
