Scholarships: Dr. Robert E. ‘Doc’ Herman Scholarship Fund

Dr. Robert E. Herman, known to many as "Doc" Herman, was passionate about American Legion Baseball in Oshkosh.

For more than 50 years, Doc served as the business manager for the local youth league. His leadership extended to state and national American Legion tournaments and baseball conferences as well.

"He was a second father for me as my own died in 1978," says Jim White, who coached under Doc's leadership for more than 20 years. "His greatest weakness was perhaps never asking for help. The world could use more people like Doc Herman."

To honor Doc's legacy, players he coached in the 1955-56 team that advanced to the World Series created a Scholarship Fund that bears his name. Since Doc's passing in 2006, the fund has helped several American Legion Baseball players purse a higher education.
