|Scholarships: Brandon J. Backus Scholarship Fund
Each June since Brandon Backus' life ended too soon, people have gathered at a local golf course to tee off in memory of him.
About 100 people, friends, family and even some strangers, rally around each other for golfing, dinner and a raffle. The money raised benefits a Scholarship Fund in Brandon's name.
"It's a very special event each year," says his father, Jerry Backus. "It's something that we remember him by, and I'm very blessed to have very good friends and family that help us through this manner, and keep him somewhat a part of our lives by doing good for others."
Brandon died at the age of 25 in 2008 as the result of a motorcycle accident. The Brandon J. Backus Scholarship Fund keeps his memory alive by helping students who share his interest in baseball pay for their education.
