Community Foundation event concludes with $250,000 gift
The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation’s annual Donor Appreciation event ended with a six-figure surprise yesterday when Jim Keller of J. J. Keller Foundation, Inc. presented a $250,000 check to the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.
“We were completely blown away,” says Eileen Connolly-Keesler, Oshkosh Area Community Foundation President and CEO. “All I can say is ‘wow’. We can’t thank the J. J. Keller Foundation enough!”
The J. J. Keller Family was honored Thursday as a Partner in Philanthropy Award winner for their involvement in the Basic Needs Giving Partnership, a matching grant program part of the U.S. Oil Open. Also honored were the Schmidt Family for their leadership in the Basic Needs Giving Partnership and U.S. Oil Open, and Oshkosh Corporation for their overall charitable support of the community.
Earlier in the evening, board chairman Patrick Seubert announced that the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation raised $3.9 million in contributions for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, bringing total assets under management to $57 million. The Community Foundation also distributed $2.3 million in grants and established 33 new charitable funds.
The annual Donor Appreciation event also featured a Guinness World Record attempt for tallest toilet paper pyramid. Although the world record wasn’t broken, the community contributed 14,419 rolls of toilet paper for the effort, proceeds of which were donated to the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry.
