|Background: We report nominal median home prices; nominal means that the prices are not adjusted for inflation. The selected counties are representatives of the three main metropolitan areas of Wisconsin. For more information on home prices or to acquire additional data, visit the Wisconsin Realtors Association. The 2011 Southern Winnebago County LIFE Study contains additional information on housing issues in Oshkosh and the surrounding communities.|
Analysis: Between 2005 and 2011, Winnebago County home prices were, on average, $18,133 less than Milwaukee County home prices, but held their value better than in Milwaukee (a smaller decline from previous years). Winnebago County home prices were $87,521 less than Dane County prices, on average, during the same time frame. Home prices, and real estate values more generally, are an important indicator of economic opportunity for businesses and workers seeking to relocate. Relatively low home prices and crime rates coupled with relatively high salaries (compared to state levels) make Winnebago County an attractive place to live, work, and raise a family.
