Wishing Well of Green Lake County Fund Awards $20,255 to Local Agencies

The Wishing Well of Green Lake County Fund (formerly Green Lake County Area United Fund) supports charitable projects and programs that improve the quality of life in Green Lake County through a focus on children and families.

The Wishing Well of Green Lake County Fund is proud to announce that $20,255 was recently granted out to following organizations:

Berlin Area School District – Family Literacy: This grant will be used to provide a new book every 2-3 weeks throughout the school year to approximately 100 students in the BASD 4-K Community Collaborative Programs in order to build their home libraries.

Berlin Community Daycare & Preschool – Raised Gardens: Grant will be used to build raised flower and vegetable gardens that children will be able to help plant and maintain.

Berlin Senior Center – Brain Health Session at Our Day Conference: Materials will be purchased for approximately 35 seniors attending the “Have FUN Thinking” session at the Our Day Conference on October 3 at the Green Lake Conference Center.

Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area – Summer/Fall Sports Programming: To support the replacement of sports equipment in order to engage approx. 100 kids ages 6-18 years old in sports leagues for soccer and football.

Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc. – Mindfulness Bags: To create 20 Mindfulness Bags – each containing a book, candle, timer, journal, ticket to a yoga class, and three bracelets – that Green Lake County clients can take home after practicing mindfulness in small groups or one-on-one with an advocate.

Community Options – Building Security: To install security cameras and a remote door release function to allow staff to “buzz in” people when the building is locked and there is no staff person in the office to answer the doorbell.

Covey, Inc – iCan Shine Bike Camp 2019 – To sponsor the participation of two individuals with disabilities from Green Lake County in a week-long camp to learn how to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle.

Discovery Preschool – Outdoor Classroom Project: To transform an outdoor space into a classroom where children can learn and explore about nature through fun, hands-on experiences.

Fox River Industries – Smart TV, Heat Sealer and Exercise Bike: To purchase a smart television for Day Services consumers, a heat sealer for production/packaging employees, and an exercise bike for use during daily exercises routines for consumers int he Adult Day Service and Community Based Prevocational Services programs.

Green Lake County Health and Human Services – Senior Nutrition Program: To purchase shelf-stable meals for 100 homebound meal participants to have on hand in the event that weather prevents meal deliveries for the day.

Green Lake County Health and Human Services – Operation Backpack: To purchase drawstring backpacks for approx. 120 middle and high school students for families with economic needs in Green Lake County.

Green Lake County Health and Human Services – Emergency Preparedness “Go Kits”: To purchase weather radios, flashlights, first aid kits and other items so that 30 Green Lake County residents, who are chronically mentally ill, have a substance abuse disorder or both, can create and take home “Go Kits” for emergencies.

Princeton Senior Citizens Club, Inc. – To purchase a recumbent exercise bike, treadmill and hand-held weights for the group exercise room.

Special Olympics Wisconsin – 2018 State Outdoor Sports Tournament: To help cover the expenses of Green Lake athletes participating in the State Outdoor Sports Tournament at Caroll University in Waukesha on August 3-4, 2018

United Way 2-1-1 Text Line – To support translation fees and costs to offer one-on-one texting via the United Way 2-1-1 short code (898211) for residents of Green Lake County that are seeking help with housing, food, medical and utility expenses, and other community services.

Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Education – Bookworms in Green Lake County: To purchase a set of 8 new books for 160 children in early childhood and 4K programs as part of the Wisconsin Booksworms early literacy program.

Scouting Scholarships to Bay Lakes Council Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes, Inc. – Financial assistance is provide to Green Lake County youth who would otherwise not be able to participate in local Boy and Girl Scouting Programs due to membership and troop dues, uniform expenses, and/or fees for council-sponsored programs like summer camp.
