Make a Difference This Holiday Season: Year-End Charitable Giving Options

Group of hands each holding a lit sparkler in front of a dark blue night sky background As the year comes to a close, many of us reflect on the causes that matter most and the impact we want to make in our communities. Year-end giving is not only an opportunity to support organizations and initiatives you care about but also a chance to maximize your charitable impact with thoughtful planning.

At the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, we offer a variety of ways to give that align with your values and financial goals. Year-end giving not only supports the causes you care about but also provides potential tax benefits.

Here are some options to consider, making your year-end giving meaningful and effective:

  1. Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs): Establish or contribute to a DAF to streamline your giving. You can donate today, receive a tax deduction, and recommend grants to nonprofits at a later time.
  2. IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If you’re 70½ or older, direct distributions from your IRA to a qualified charity. These gifts can help satisfy your required minimum distributions and reduce taxable income.
  3. Appreciated Assets: Donating stocks, bonds, or other appreciated assets is a tax-savvy way to give. Avoid capital gains taxes while supporting a cause close to your heart.
  4. Legacy Giving: Establish a planned gift through your will or trust to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
  5. Community Impact Funds: Donate directly to funds that address pressing community needs, allowing our foundation to invest in meaningful solutions.

The deadline for 2024 contributions is December 31:

  • The last day to make in-person donations at our office is December 31 by 12PM.
  • Mail postmark date for donations sent via U.S. Mail is December 31.
  • Credit card donations made online at https://www.oshkoshareacf.org/donate must be completed by midnight on December 31 to be considered a 2024 contribution.
  • Stocks, bonds and mutual funds must be received by RBC/Carl Hennig, who acts as our brokerage firm, by market close on
  •  December 31

Supporting charitable organizations strengthens your community and improves the lives of others. Giving to a nonprofit or through your local Community Foundation ensures your contribution makes a lasting impact.
