Scholarship FAQs

Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to apply for a scholarship?

There is no charge to apply.

What do scholarship funds typically cover?

Typically, scholarship funds can be used for tuition and fees.

Can I apply to more than one scholarship?

Yes, our online application automatically puts you into consideration for all scholarships that you are eligible for.

Do I need to pay scholarship money back?

Unlike student loans, these are charitable grants that do not need to be repaid.

If I am awarded a scholarship, do i receive the check?

Checks are sent directly to your college or university in your name after verification of GPA and credit load.

How are scholarship payments made?

Before we can send payment to your school, you will need to fill out a scholarship verification form and return it, with required documents, to the Community Foundation. You will be notified via email when the check will be mailed to your school. Allow up to 30 days for the check to be processed by the school and reach your student account.

What if I need to defer my scholarship?

If you need to defer your scholarship for any reason, you will need prior approval from the Community Foundation. Please email Director of Education Cheryl Fowler.

If I receive a scholarship one year, will I automatically receive an award for the following year?

Not all scholarships are renewable. If the scholarship you received is renewable, it is your responsibility to contact the Community Foundation if you plan to re-enroll for the following year. The Foundation requires that students submit a college transcript before considering any renewals. It is important to do this early so that others can receive a scholarship if you do not plan on continuing your studies.

What about next year?

For each year’s payment of your renewable scholarship, you will need to provide us with a renewal verification form, along with your upcoming class schedule (with credits listed) and your unofficial transcript from the previous semester/year. If your scholarship was awarded in part due to choice of major, please provide documentation of your major. Mail or email Director of Education Cheryl Fowler with the information prior to the start of the new semester.

What if I change schools?

If at any time you change your mailing address or email, please contact Director of Education Cheryl Fowler.

If I want to send a thank you note, where do I send it?

The Foundation strongly encourages all scholarship recipients to extend their gratitude to donors who generously provide higher-education scholarship assistance. Address a thank you note to the name of the scholarship you received, and mail it to:

Oshkosh Area Community Foundation
230 Ohio Street, Suite 100
Oshkosh WI 54902-5894
