Schools play a critical role in getting kids the help they need. Many have hired mental health professionals to provide counseling during the school day, launched programs to reduce the stigma attached to mental health conditions, and introduced mental wellness screening. The School District of Omro has done all of this and gone one step further by providing education and self-care supports for teachers.

Each month during the school year, a large truck from the Community Clothes Closet in Menasha is filled with clothing, bedding, winter wear, and personal care items for its visit to the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh.  Students referred by OASD school social workers shop at the Traveling Closet, and everything is free of charge.

Eat Well for Life supports community members living with food insecurity and uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes as they adopt healthier lifestyles. During the 13-week program, participants and their households receive food, recipes, meal plans, and diabetes education to learn to eat healthy, move more, and achieve their health goals, such as managing diabetes with fewer complications.

Jason Breaker knew that there were some internet connection gaps in his rural community of Markesan, WI, but after the Covid-19 pandemic closed schools and businesses, he realized internet access was severely limited.  As the Elementary Principal and District Administrator for the Markesan Public School District, Breaker discovered that many students were unable to attend school virtually.
