Friends of the Wolf Wilderness Recreation Trail

Mission Statement

The Friends of the Wolf Wilderness Recreation Trail (FWWRT) strive to maintain and enhance the trail for present day and future generations. Their mission is to ensure its availability for year round exercise, sporting activities, hunting and fishing, and simple enjoyment of nature; ultimately connecting the communities of Winneconne, Butte des Morts, and Oshkosh through trails and healthy living.

A grant from the Winneconne Area Community Impact Fund last fall allowed the FWWRT to purchase a bench for the walking trail. The trail, nearly 3.5k long, previously had two benches but was in need of more. The new bench was placed in an area with heavy foot traffic providing a location for trail users to rest and enjoy the view.

The WWRT has been a very popular destination for hundreds of residents of the Winneconne and Oshkosh area for several years. About 40% of users are walking with their dogs. During the warm months, there are an estimated 25-35 walkers per day.

The Friends of the Wolf Wilderness Recreation Trail Fund was established in 2014 to provide support for the Wolf Wilderness Recreation Trail and associated marshland property owned by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in the Town of Winneconne southeast of Highways 45 and 116 intersection.
